Hot Cocoa Stroll – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Hot Cocoa Stroll?
The Hot Cocoa Stroll is a free, self-guided winter shopping event in Downtown Excelsior. Community members are invited to stroll through participating local businesses, enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and treats, and support local shops.

Do I need to register or buy a ticket to attend?
No. The Hot Cocoa Stroll is free and open to everyone. No ticket or registration is required to attend.

How does the Hot Cocoa Stroll work?
Simply show up during the event hours and stroll through participating businesses at your own pace. Each location will offer complimentary hot cocoa or a small treat, and many will feature in-store specials. You can start anywhere, visit as many businesses as you’d like, and stay as long as you want.

Is there a map or guide for the event?
Yes. We offer two easy ways to navigate the Hot Cocoa Stroll:

  • A Hot Cocoa Stroll Passport with a printed map of all participating businesses, clearly indicating which locations are serving hot cocoa and which are offering treats. Passports can be picked up at any one of the 23 participating businesses during the event.
  • A Google interactive map, available on the Hot Cocoa Stroll website, for those who prefer a digital option instead of a paper passport.

What is the commemorative mug, and do I need one?
The commemorative mug is optional. For $15, you can pre-purchase a limited-edition Hot Cocoa Stroll ceramic mug along with a bundle of goodies. The mug is a keepsake and part of an upgraded experience, but it is not required to participate in the stroll.

When and where do I pick up my commemorative mug?

Your pickup will include your commemorative mug, cocoa toppings, and passport.

When is the deadline to purchase a mug?
Mugs must be pre-purchased by February 15. Mugs will not be sold on the day of the event.

Can I attend the event without buying a mug?
Yes. Everyone is welcome to attend, shop, and enjoy the Hot Cocoa Stroll without purchasing a mug.

Where does the event take place?
The Hot Cocoa Stroll takes place throughout Downtown Excelsior at participating local businesses.

Is this a guided event or a set route?
No. The event is self-guided. There is no required route or schedule. You choose where to go and how long to stay.

What businesses are participating?
A full list of participating businesses is available on the event page. Each participating location will offer hot cocoa or a small treat during the stroll.

What is the receipt upload and prize drawing?
Shoppers can upload receipts from purchases made at participating businesses during the event to be entered into a prize drawing. Winners will receive ELMCC Community Cash Gift Cards, which can be used at over 25 local businesses.

How do I enter the prize drawing?
After shopping at participating businesses, upload your receipts using the receipt upload button on the event page. Uploading receipts enters you into the drawing.

How does the Hot Cocoa Stroll benefit the community?

What happens if the weather is bad?
The event will take place rain, snow, or shine. Dress warmly and plan accordingly.
