When is Excelsior Firecracker this year?

Where is Excelsior Firecracker?

All races will begin at Excelsior Elementary School, near the playground, and end in Excelsior Commons.

Where/When is Packet Pick-Up or Day-Of Registration?

July 3: 2-6 PM at Excelsior Elementary School Gymnasium. Directions to follow.

July 4: 6-7:15 AM at Excelsior Elementary School Gymnasium. Directions to follow.

Where can I park? 

Parking is available in the Excelsior East Lot (behind Excelsior Brewing), Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, and some limited spots at Excelsior Elementary. There is also ample paid street parking available. No shuttle is provided.

*PLEASE NOTE: The West Parking lot will be under construction and there will be very limited parking available*

Can I have more race information?

There is a 1-mile race beginning at 7:30 AM, 10k race beginning at 7:50 AM and the 5k starting at 8 AM. You can find the race routes on our home page. Strollers are allowed. This is a chipped and timed race. Results will be available on the website following the event.

What if I have to cancel?

The race is non-refundable. Please email carolynne@elmcc.org for transfers.

Can I register the day-of?

Yes, you can register the day-of the race. You will not receive a shirt for day-of registrations, you can pick up July 27- August 27, 2023 at Lakes Running Co.

Are dogs allowed?
Dogs are not allowed in the race or during the event.

Are strollers allowed?

Yes!

Can I walk the 1-mile, 5k or 10k?

Absolutely! The race course is torn down by 10 AM.

What if I register AFTER June 20?

Participants who register after June 20 will not receive a shirt at packet pick-up. Participants can pick up their shirt following the event on July 27- August 27 at Lakes Running Co. Excelsior. This aids in shirt waste and cleaner events.

Is there food and drink available?

Water stops will be available along the route as well as at the finish line. We will also have post-race snacks at the finish line.

There will be 13+ food vendors serving a variety of foods. We also encourage you to check out the breweries and restaurants on Water Street and Downtown Excelsior.

What would I have to pay for?

Any purchases from food vendors. Event merchandise is also available for sale.

Food vendors' pricing is based on their own pricing regulations.

Cash or card, and Apple Pay, are accepted.

What happens in case of emergency or lost/found?

First Aid, emergency responders and lost/found will be located at the finish line.

Where are bathrooms located?

Portapotties are located at Excelsior Elementary, along the race route, and the Commons Park in Excelsior.

Where can spectators watch the race?

Beginning, end, and anywhere along the course.

Dear Runners,

We are excited to welcome you to the upcoming Excelsior Firecracker Race! This email contains important information about packet pick-up, race day, and other details that will help ensure a successful and enjoyable race day.

Packet Pick-Up

Packet pick-up will be available on July 3 from 2-6 PM and July 4 from 6-7:15 AM at Excelsior Elementary School (441 Oak St, Excelsior, MN 55331). To find registration, please enter through the front doors of the school and walk straight, the gymnasium will be visible from the entrance. Registration will also be available for walk-ups until 7:15 AM on July 4. 

Join us on July 3 for early packet pick-up  and miss the line. Then, grab dinner, or enjoy drinks in Downtown Excelsior!

Registered after June 12? Shirts will be NOT be available at packet pick-up. You can pickup your shirt after the event at Lakes Running Co. (218 Water St, Excelsior, MN 55331) from July 27- August 27, 2023.

Race Day Schedule

The 1-Mile will begin promptly at 7:30 AM behind the Elementary School. Signage will be available from registration to the start line. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early to ensure you have enough time to warm up and get ready.

The 10k will begin promptly at 7:50 AM behind the Elementary School. Signage will be available from registration to the start line. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early to ensure you have enough time to warm up and get ready. Strollers and walkers, please stay in the back of the pack.

The 5k  will begin promptly at 8 AM behind the Elementary School. Signage will be available from registration to the start line. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early to ensure you have enough time to warm up and get ready. Strollers and walkers, please stay in the back of the pack.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

7:25 AM: National Anthem at Start Line

7:30 AM: 1-Mile Start

7:50 AM: 10k Start

8 AM: 5k Start

~10 AM: Awards Ceremony for top male/female in 5k or 10k at Excelsior Commons

11:00 AM: Kid's Parade through Downtown Excelsior (start at Kowalski's)

Course Information

The course will be clearly marked, and volunteers and/or police will be stationed throughout to guide and assist you. Please find the course maps attached for more information including water stops. If you have an emergency along the route, please call 911. 

Parking

Parking will be available in the East lot and at Excelsior Elementary, but spaces are VERY limited. We encourage you to carpool from Minnetonka Middle School or High School or use public transportation if possible to help reduce traffic and ensure everyone can find a spot.

There is also street parking available. 

Awards

Awards will be given to the top finishers in each age group, as well as the overall male and female winners. A certificate will be sent via email. Top male/female of 5k and 10k will receive awards at the Excelsior Commons Bandshell at 10 AM or can pickup from Lakes Running Co.

Firecracker Inclement Weather Plan

 

Hello, 

In order to inform you about our plans to keep all participants safe during Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Events, we would like to give you a brief update in case there is inclement weather on July 4. We are currently monitoring the forecast and are in communication with the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service will provide us with a forecast and recommendations as we near the event date. 

 

Below is our inclement weather plan. This event will continue rain or shine but precautions will be taken for inclement weather that may affect the safety of our participants, including lightning or severe weather We will communicate an initial report on July 3 and a final report on July 4 by 5 AM. A reminder, this event is non-refundable or transferable, we will do our best to make sure all participants can enjoy our event safely. In the case the race needs to be canceled due to extended severe weather, this will be communicated via our social media channels as well.
